Today, we are delighted to announce that we have raised a $20 million Series B funding round, led by Y Combinator’s Continuity Fund, with participation from existing investors Floodgate, Polaris Partners, First Round Capital, and Initialized Capital. The funding will help fuel our rapid growth, expand our core API offering, and grow our team as we continue on our mission to provide the building blocks for developers to automate the offline world.
Along with this funding, Ali Rowghani, CEO of YC Continuity and former COO of Twitter, will be joining our board. YC’s invaluable support of our vision has consistently driven Lob forward. We look forward to continuing to work with such amazing partners.
"Make the World Programmable"
When we founded Lob, we wanted to create a set of tools that would make the world programmable. Our suite of APIs abstracts away operational complexities so customers can have digital control over physical aspects of their business. Before Lob, operational workflows required manual execution and used ancient technologies like FTP. Today, Lob has set the bar with modern tooling that allow customers to send fully personalized mailings through automated workflows.
Four years ago, when we started Lob, we were printing everything in-house on a single printer. Today, we are the default infrastructure for any company that wants to automate the sending of postcards, letters and checks. We have built a nationwide print delivery network that has delivered mail to 1 out of every 9 households in the US.
With this new funding, we plan on investing in expanding our print delivery network, building more robust UI tools for teams integrating Lob, and releasing complementary APIs that further assist our core users in automating tedious back office workflows.
We are also excited to announce the release of Lob’s Address Verification API, an API designed to validate and standardize US and international addresses. Lob’s domestic Address Verification API checks against USPS’s 156 million deliverable addresses to ensure that your product will get to its final destination and that your addresses are standardized, validated, and cleaned. Our international verification offers the same robust cleansing for addresses in over 240 countries.
This new API will help customers ensure they are storing the cleanest address data possible in their CRM, database, or other repository. Lob’s domestic verification API is CASS certified by USPS, allowing us to check address data against the source of truth to maximize deliverability. Lob is bringing modern tooling to an age-old problem and is the first company in nearly a decade to be CASS certified by the USPS.
We are humbled to work with incredible colleagues, customers, partners, and investors on this journey to make the world programmable. Both Leore and I want to thank everyone who has pushed us to innovate faster and helped shape Lob’s success. We can’t wait for our next chapter in building APIs that will enable companies to control the offline world with a few lines of code.
Come join us on our mission!
